Raw, Dirty, Beer, Rock & Roll and Death Metal. Thats how I describe Entombed. Their new record  Serpaint Saints has been out for a while, but somehow the EP When in Sodom arrived at the Metalrage Headquarters. Since we love raw Rock & Roll metal beers, it's time to give this neat little disc a spin.

"When In Sodom" is a thrashy uptempo tune (actually featuring a choir singing When in Soodoom, neat!). Also an excellent drum-bridge from new drummer Olle Dahlstedt towards the end. It somehow reminded me of their killer track "Stranger Aeons", so thats good."Carnage" follows nicely with an almost Slayer-ish riff. So far things are thrashy and fast, with a nice heap of doublebass here and there. "Thou Shalt Kill" rolls into your head with a typical Entombed riff & groove, the style that the band has mastered on their last few records. 

"Heresy" also shows a bit more of the modern sound of the band, the stoner/doomy influences are at the front on this track. Entombed isn't really known for their delicate songs with atmosphere, but the track "Amen" consists of a melodic guitar line, spoken word vocals and tasteful drums, and some keys towards the end.

When In Sodom is an excellent 5 track EP that lets us hear an Entombed that stays to their roots while being able to incorporate the different facets of their sound. Get it if you are a fan, check it out if you don't know these guys.
